Every time I got paid we only input a certain amount. Lets say my check was $592. We would enter an amount of $550 in the front of our checkbook and deposit the remaining $42 in the back of the checkbook under the title "secret savings".
Doing this kept our cash easily accessible.

Allowed us automatic overdraft protection.

Budgeting off the same amount was easier.
