All my life I've
negotiated prices. I
believe I picked up this
trait when I was young,
working in an auction
house. I observed how the
elderly bidders knew how
to spot a deal and work it
to their benifit.
When I joined the military
I was sent to Turkey.
Overseas you have to
haggle for everything, it
seemed to be in their
culture.
I can't even imagine how
much money I've actually
saved over the last 20
years being cheap. My
family calls me a tight
wad, which really bugged
me for awhile, however
today all I have to do is
look at my frugal past and
appreciate my current
financial situation.
The other day a Kirby
salesman insistantly
pushed his demonstration
on me. I told him before
he started that his chance
of selling me the new
vacuum (the g6 model) was
slim to none. But I
admired his tenacity and
allowed him in.
After 2 hours of his
demonstration, I was
really feeling like I
wanted one of these
machines and asked the
price. I almost fell out
of my chair when he
responded the price was
$1800.
Now I had to give it to
this guy, he really was a
good salesperson, but
there was no way I was
going to pay $1800 for a
vacuum, see we started our
price game. Without going
into detail about the
whole thing, I got him
down to $850.
I still didn't get the
machine, but just a wanted
to share with you that
everything is negotiable.
Heck, I even ask for
discounts at Sears.
P.S. I am now shopping for
a rebuilt Kirby vacuum on
Ebay!!!
